Privacy Policy
Effective July 12, 2026
CatChat makes exactly four privacy claims:
- Messages disappear from view by default.
- Chats stay on your device.
- Nothing is sent to the cloud.
- You can permanently delete local history anytime.
What the app collects
Nothing. CatChat has no accounts, no analytics, no crash reporting that ships transcripts, and no servers of ours that ever see your messages. The AI model runs entirely on your device.
The one network request
On first launch, the app downloads the AI model file (about 2 GB) from Hugging Face, a public model host. This is a plain file download — none of your messages or personal information is included in it. After the download, conversations work without any network connection.
Local history
If local memory is enabled, your recent messages are stored in a small database on your device so the cat can remember context. You can turn this off, or permanently delete the stored history, in Settings at any time. "Permanently delete" means the rows are actually deleted from the on-device database.
The browser version
The web version at catchat.is/app keeps conversation memory only for the current tab session — closing the tab discards it. Your browser caches the downloaded model file so return visits don't re-download it; clearing site data removes it.
Children
We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included — because we don't collect personal information at all. There are no accounts to create and nothing leaves the device.
Your rights
Privacy laws in various places (GDPR, CCPA, and others) give you rights over data that companies hold about you. We hold none. Everything CatChat knows lives on your device, under your control, deletable in Settings at any time.
What we don't claim
We don't claim cryptographic guarantees, anonymity, or unbreakable deletion — just the four plain statements above, which the app is built to keep.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the effective date above will change with it. Given that we collect nothing, there isn't much room to get worse.
